Dr. Robert Conway, Psychiatrist

Hi, I’m Dr. Robert Conway and I’m honored to be part of your child’s mental health journey. Let me share a bit about myself and how I came to this important work.

I was born in Hampton, Virginia, and graduated from York High School. Early on, I had a deep curiosity about the world, and I decided to pursue that by attending the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

After graduation, I accepted a job in London with a Japanese investment firm, which later sent me to Hong Kong. Following the 1987 market crash, I returned to England and attended law school, ultimately spending 20 years practicing law across England, South Africa, and Australia.

In 2004, I returned to the United States and spent 12 years in New York City as a pharmaceutical lawyer. Despite the success in law, I felt a calling to help others in a different way. I transitioned into nursing, deciding that mental health care would be the focus of my new career.

Pursuing Nursing and Psychiatry

I returned to school and enrolled in the nursing program at Georgia Southern University, where I graduated summa cum laude. My first job as an RN was in a psychiatric residential facility for children, and it was here I found my true passion for helping kids with mental health challenges. I went on to complete graduate school at Vanderbilt University, where I trained as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, and later earned my doctorate in nursing practice.

My Experience With Inpatient and Outpatient Care

Previously, I worked with acutely ill patients in crisis on inpatient units at a local children's psychiatric hospital. While it was rewarding work, I was only able to provide care for a short period during their hospital stay. Now, I focus on seeing patients in an outpatient setting full-time, which allows me to build long-term relationships with my patients and truly help them reach their potential.

My Approach to Helping Children and Adolescents

My path to psychiatry may have been unconventional, but it has brought me to one very clear mission: to help children and adolescents manage their mental health and succeed in life. It’s incredibly fulfilling to be part of their long-term journey, offering both treatment and support as they grow and achieve their full potential.
